The two clean, white blocks of the large exhibition halls rise from a timber clad plinth like sails on a ship. A substantial volume, demanded by the building’s function, is carefully carved and split to reduce the scale of the development and to show respect to its low rise surroundings. A new public terrace and an open-air auditorium contribute to an effective placemaking. process.
